Your garbage and bulk collection will soon be better than ever as small piles of loose items 50 pounds or less will be collected by hand, instead of by the Green Grabber.
This will be more efficient, reduce equipment downtime and cause less damage to lawns and landscaping. The new service will begin the week of April 5.
Why the change?
The City has historically used knuckleboom trucks, also known as Green Grabbers, and rolloff trucks for bulky collection, regardless of the bulk material collected. During a recent assessment, staff found that the majority of the homeowners set out small piles weighing less than 50 pounds, which can be collected and loaded quickly by hand.
The City has signed a contract with CWD to assist the City with bulk collection services. Beginning in April, CWD will collect up to 2 cubic yards of loose or bagged bulk material, weighing 50 pounds or less, at each address. City staff will still operate the Green Grabber and will collect the larger, heavier items as well as brush piles. During bulk week, residents who have set out small piles of lightweight bulk material may see the Green Grabber vehicle pass by, but rest assured CWD will arrive soon before or after, to provide collection.
