MOVING ON: Deputy Chief Dean Habel retiring to take Chief's job in Anna

FBTX ~ After 25 years of service to the City of Farmers Branch, Deputy Police Chief Dean Habel is retiring in November and will soon become the new Police Chief in Anna, Texas.

   After being hired as a patrol officer in 1995, Habel progressed up the ranks to Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant and was named Deputy Chief over operations in 2016.

   He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master of Liberal Studies from SMU. Chief Habel also holds Master Peace Officer certification, started the FBPD's Citizens on Patrol program, is a 15 year member of the SWAT team and a graduate of the 246th FBI National Academy in Virginia.

   "Chief Habel has been an outstanding leader and friend for the past 25 years and has served our great City with honor and distinction," said Farmers Branch Police Chief David Hale. "He has certainly contributed greatly to the success of our department.

   "While it is bittersweet to see him go, I am very proud of his new position as Police Chief of Anna but will miss him tremendously and wish him the best of luck!"
