FBTX ~ For years, Montgomery Elementary School occupied the corner of Heartside Place and Amber Lane, welcoming Farmers Branch children for decades.
Now, with kids going to nearby Blair Elementary School, and following the demolition of the old building, the corner has been repurposed into a verdant, open park setting, exclusively designated for use by Farmers Branch families.
Now dubbed Montgomery Field, the Farmers Branch Parks & Recreation Department transformed the corner into a beautiful space that Parks & Recreation Director Mike Mashburn said will be free to use.
"City Council identified a need to designate a park space that will be open for families to use year-round, first come-first served with no rentals," he said.
“We’re so grateful to our partners at C-FBISD for sharing the property that we can now offer to Farmers Branch families for picnics, ball games, birthdays or any other reason to get outdoors in our beautiful city,” said Farmers Branch Mayor Robert Dye. “Heavy credit also goes to Council members Cristal Retana and Bronson Blackson who were instrumental in making this happen.”
Montgomery Field is expected to be ready for use August 3.
