FBTX ~ Citing his record of exemplary service and demonstrated leadership, Gabriel Vargas will serve as the next Fire Chief for the City of Farmers Branch.
Serving as the department’s Deputy Chief of Operations for the past seven years, Chief Vargas originally joined the Farmers Branch Fire Department in 1997.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and is currently President of the Dallas County Fire Chiefs Association.
Chief Vargas is a licensed paramedic, a Master Firefighter and a Fire Service Instructor.
"I had the very good fortune to have Chief Vargas as my Deputy Chief of Operations for more than seven years," said Fire Chief Steve Parker. "His professionalism and dedication to our community allowed the Fire Department to be prepared to deliver outstanding service to a rapidly growing city well into the next decade. He is the perfect choice to serve as our City’s next Fire Chief."
Chief Vargas and his wife, Kami, have been married for 14 years. They have six children, including five sons and one daughter. He will take the reins of the Fire Department upon Chief Parker’s retirement in August.
