FBTX ~ As the grandson of a church builder, Kerry Phillips brings a rich heritage to his new position as Parks Construction Manager.

Along with co-workers Mark Moffeit as Project Specialist II and Frank Molina as Project Specialist I, they make up the newly ordained Parks Construction Crew. Parks and Recreation Director Parks Video Extra thumbnailMike Mashburn said the new group formalizes a process that has been working well for some time.

"We've always had a ton of talent in-house for construction projects but the time was limited," he said. "So, we re-positioned three members of staff to be our Parks Construction Crew that can get those projects done year-round."

To date, the crew has already been responsible for the stage and covering at The Grove, pavilions at the Aquatics Center and Farmers Branch Park and, most notably, complete in-house construction of the Barney Wood Bark Park.

A 31-year Farmers Branch employee, Mr. Phillips says the ability for his crew to focus on construction projects will allow other teams to focus on their primary responsibilities.

After 25 years with the City, Mr. Moffeit says this is a whole new perspective on how to get things done.

The youngest member of the team, Mr. Molina expressed how honored he feels to have the opportunity to do the kind this kind of work.

"It gives me joy to hear what kind of things residents have been saying," he said.

Mr. Mashburn said the crew has a full slate of work on the drawing board.
