Day of the Dead Celebration


Thursday, October 29 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm 


Ages 4 and up

Join us for an intimate celebration of the Day of the Dead also known as Día de los Muertos.

Festivities will include Mariachi Los Reyes de Dallas, sponsored by Cuquita’s Restaurant, a stroll 
through the Historical Park grounds viewing the most prominent feature of the celebration, the 
altars honoring the deceased, and traditional Mexican tapas from local Farmers Branch restaurants, 
including Nuevo Leon Mex-Mex Restaurant, and El Refrán Mexican Buffet, as well as craft beer and 
fall sangrias from Cedar Creek Brewhouse & Eatery.

Featured altars include Frida Kahlo, Juan Gabriel, Jovita Idár, and Farmers Branch pioneer, Juan Hernandez, among others. Altars will be embellished with beautiful fall mums provided by Home Depot.

Come explore acrylics and paint a Sugar Skull inspired by the amazing artist, Frida Kahlo. You will learn various painting techniques, how to mix colors and explore textures to create your own masterpiece! Artists will take home an 11" x 14" masterpiece on canvas.  BYOB limited to one bottle of wine or two beers per person. Ages 21 and up only, must bring ID.

Looking for a way to treat mom? Join us for the third annual Mums & Sons: Passport to Adventure, Planes, Trains and Automobiles! Spend the afternoon enjoying outdoor activities such as learning Morse Code from the train conductor, taking a selfie with Big Bertha (the Park’s 1936 Ford Truck), gathering stamps for your passport, and flying your own plane. A famous historical figure will be making an appearance. Light lunch fare will be served.

Art in the Park: Fall Portrait Mixed Media Workshop with Paloma


Saturday, November 14 from 9 am to 4 pm 


Ages 7 to 14
$50 includes all materials and a snack; space is limited and pre-registration required.


Artists will learn how to manipulate images with pictures during the morning and create a collage with different color schemes using a variety of materials after lunch. Artists will also participate in a scavenger hunt and various games.   Workshop will take place in the School House and outdoors at the Historical Park. 

Face masks required. Please bring a sack lunch and water bottle.

The Victorian Fencing Society presents a Grand Assault of Arms

A Public Exhibition of Nineteenth Century Fencing Matches, to be contested among the members of the Victorian Fencing Society with various fencing weapons to determine a champion.  Visitors are invited to cheer for their champions, ask questions, and take photos of the events.

Bring the family to the Historical Park and learn about the birds of the night.  The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will be on hand with live owls for a show and tell.  Weather permitting, the event will conclude with a prowl for owls led by Master Naturalist, Steve Romaine.

Screen-printing & Sewing with Paloma

Create your own fabric for your Halloween Trick or Treat tote bag. Artist will screen-print their fabric during the morning hours and learn how to use the sewing machine to sew their bag after lunch! Artists will also participate in a scavenger hunt and various games. This workshop is guaranteed to be a lot of fun!   Workshop will take place in the School House and outdoors at the Historical Park.
