Farmers Branch offers a number of programs to help teach the community about fire and life safety, and encourages residents and workplaces to make use of these opportunities.

Citizen Fire Academy
The Citizen Fire Academy is a 10-week program (one night per week), held once a year, that offers those who live, work or go to school in the City of Farmers Branch a great opportunity to learn more about the Fire Department.  Apply now for the next class.

Elementary School Fire & Life Safety Lessons
Age-specific programs are provided at all elementary schools in Farmers Branch. Each grade is taught a different fire prevention and life safety lesson.

Fired Up for Literature
One fourth grade student, that reads the most minutes from each of the five public schools in Farmers branch is rewarded with a ride to school on a fire truck.

Station Tours

Adults and children will see how the firefighters live through the "Firefighters Are Your Friends" program.

Teen Fire Academy
The Teen Fire Academy is an interactive, five day course that teaches teens life-saving skills and educates them about what it takes to have a career in the fire service. The Academy is typically held in June at Fire Admin / Station Number 3 (13333 Hutton). Registration is limited to 20 teens. To register your teen (ages 13 -17), contact the Farmers Branch Recreation Center at 972.247.4607.

 

Special Request Classes, Programs, and Events
The Fire Department tries to accommodate requests for special fire prevention classes, programs and attendance at educational events (such as health and safety fairs) within the City. Please call for availability.

Blood Pressure Checks
All fire stations offer free blood pressure checks (based on available staff at time of visit).

Fire Extinguisher Training
This course includes classroom and/or hands-on training in the safe use and inspection of fire extinguishers. This class is available to businesses or special groups in Farmers Branch. A minimum of five people is required. The business or group must provide the fire extinguishers.

Fire Warden Training
Fire Inspectors provide workplace fire safety and evacuation training to fire wardens and office building occupants.  Please call for availability.
