SPECIAL DISCOUNT ~ Discounted fee for all adult dogs and cats is $20 until all available pets are adopted. The adoption fee for kittens remains at $85.

Our Program

Animal services is an environmental health program of the community services department designed to promote public health and safety through education, enforcement and legislation. The major objectives of animal services are to protect the public from diseases (such as rabies) that can be transmitted from animals to humans, to reduce the number of traffic emergencies caused by uncontrolled animals, to abate nuisances and annoyance to citizens caused by animals, to reunite pets with owners, to promote the adoption of unwanted or stray animals housed at the city’s animal shelter and to operate the city’s animal shelter in a humane and sanitary manner.

Animal services provides the following services:
  • Removal of stray animals
  • Public education programs
  • Animal bite investigations
  • Return of pets to owners
  • Nuisance complaints
  • Dangerous animal complaints
  • Quarantine animals
  • Removal of dead animals
  • Loan of animal traps

Note about Regular Adoption Fees

The $85 adoption fee is a great value as it includes over $200 of veterinary services including heartworm testing for dogs over 6 months of age, feline leukemia testing for cats over 6 months of age, sterilization, rabies and selected vaccinations, microchip, and a free veterinarian exam at participating vet clinics.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are welcome at the Animal Adoption Center and duties include cleaning kennels and cages, walking dogs, feeding the animals and basic grooming such as brushing or bathing animals. All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation class which occurs on the first Saturday of the month at 11 a.m. at the Animal Adoption Center.

Please complete the appropriate forms listed on the Volunteering information page, and submit to the Animal Adoption Center staff.

Donations to the Animal Adoption Center are always welcome and appreciated. Items such as pet food (wet or dry), treats, toys, bedding, blankets and towels can always be utilized by the center, or visit to view the AAC wishlist.
