FBTX ~ Following months of discussion in multiple meetings, the Farmers Branch City Council voted 4-1 to ask voters to decide whether or not to fund a new Library on the May City elections ballot.

The decision came in a special meeting on Wednesday, February 13, called this afternoon to decide the ballot matter. That was the sixth open Council meeting where the future of the Library was discussed, in addition to seven Library Board meetings and four community visioning meetings which generated 22 pages of comments from residents.

All Farmers Branch voters will be asked to decide a bond issue to fund $24 million for a new Library project. In addition, voters from Districts 1 and 4 will each elect a City Councilmember to represent their geographic areas.

Now, that the election has been called, additional outreach meetings will be scheduled throughout the City to continue the discussion.

Early voting for the election will be held April 22-30 with Election Day slated for May 4.
