FBTX ~ With flu season fast approaching, the Farmers Branch Sustainability and Public Health Department says now is the time to get vaccinated.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year.
“Influenza can be very serious,” said Farmers Branch Sustainability Manager Katy Evans. “It may result in a few missed days of school or work, but it can also lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death.”
While each flu season is different and influenza can affect people differently, millions of people get the flu every year. Even very healthy people can get sick and spread it to others.
“To protect yourself and others, it’s important that you visit a medical professional to get your flu shot,” explained Evans. “The more people who get vaccinated, the less flu will spread through the community.”
Flu shots are available through your physician or through Dallas County Health and Human Services. Dallas County provides flu shots to adults for $30 and to children for $5-10.
