What is the Sister City Program?
Sister cities or twin towns are a form of legal or social agreement between towns or cities in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties. These programs create opportunities for citizens and city officials to experience, explore and learn from other cultures, and it stimulates an environment for communities around the globe to learn and share experiences that further advance their cultural integration.

The Farmers Branch Sister City program traditionally includes a delegation visit to or from the Sister Cities every 5 years. These delegations are typically made up of Farmers Branch residents, and City Officials. The visit is a type of business trip that includes events, activities and meetings that further each cities understanding of City operations, customs and best practices as well as a providing a unique cultural experience.

The Sister City relationships consist of:
  • Communications between dignitaries
  • Visits between cities (both citizen and diplomats)
  • Business trade relationships
  • Economic development programs
  • Art/Cultural/Educational opportunities
