A: City Council identified building a dog park by 2020 as one of their top priorities in 2018. Additionally, feedback from the recent citizen surveys showed a dog park as the most requested amenity to be added to the city.
Q: Why did you choose the football field next to the Rec Center as the location?
A: There are a few reasons-
The football field was lightly used.
Current infrastructure is already in place including restrooms, concession stand, lighting, and a well-maintained park space. This allows for a quicker, more cost-effective turnaround.
The site is centrally located within the City.
Q: What features will the dog park have?
A: The dog park will be divided into a large and small dog area. Each section will have a doubled-gated entry, a splash pad, lighting, and ample seating. A concession stand will also be open during select special events.
Q: Is it only for Farmers Branch residents?
A: As of now, the dog park will be open to residents and non-residents.
Q: How much will it cost to use the park?
A: There is no cost to use the park except during City-sponsored events at the park requiring an admission fee.
Q: What are the hours? Will the dog park be closed some days?
A: 6 am - 10 pm (same as all other Farmers Branch park hours). The dog park will be closed on Mondays for maintenance. The park may also be closed in the event of inclement weather/wet field conditions without notice. Check the website for additional/updated info.
Q: Will there be special events at the dog park?
A: Yes! The park will feature City-sponsored dog-and-owner-friendly events throughout the year, weather permitting. Check the website for event details.
Q: Will there be an age requirement for humans? What about dogs?
A: Yes, the minimum age recommended to enter the park is 10. Ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Q: Will there be staff to monitor the park?
A: As with all public parks in Farmers Branch, staff does not provide supervision of visitors. Visitors use the park at their own risk.
Q: Can I rent the dog park?
A: The park itself is not available to rent, but pavilions are available to rent for dog birthday parties and other pet-related celebrations. Please contact Jessica Alvarado at the Recreation Center for details, 972.247.4607.
Q: I would like to donate to the dog park in memory/honor of my dog. How can I do that?
A: Donations can be made online via credit/debit card. Check donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Recreation Center. Cash donations can be made in person at the Recreation Center. Once the donation has been processed, staff will contact the donor by early May to obtain personalization/tribute information including the owner/family’s name, pet’s name, and message (if applicable). Q: Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes. Donors can obtain a receipt once the donation has been processed. The City will send letters to donors to serve as documentation of the donation in January 2020 for all 2019 donations.
